What is Ogham?

Ogham (pronounced "OH-am") is the earliest form of writing in Ireland, dating from roughly the 4th century CE—though some scholars argue for origins centuries earlier. The script consists of groups of lines carved along the edges of standing stones, typically reading from bottom to top.

The Stones Speak

Over 400 Ogham stones survive across Ireland and western Britain. Most bear simple inscriptions: names, lineages, territorial markers. But a handful contain messages that have never been fully deciphered.

These anomalous inscriptions form part of the foundation for the fictional archaeology of Finnoola.

The Connection to Myth

What's particularly fascinating is how many Ogham stones are found near sites associated with pre-Christian mythology. Coincidence? Or evidence of a deliberate effort to mark sacred places with written memory?
